It is the birthday of the great Lord Hanuman ji. on this day.
He holds all of the eight siddhis and is the no. 1 devotee of Lord Ram.
These 40 verses to him are said to remove all calamity and danger from the path of the one who recites them.
Written by Tulsi Das while he was imprisoned by the Maharaja are said to be his saving grace for soon after the Maharaja released the poet saint.
I first came across this poem at SOAS in 2000 where I was studying an MA in medieval Hindi.
What I hope to achieve in this event is to highlight how the language holds within it the code of its natural rhythm. Then together we can enjoy this rhythm through its recitation. What will also filter through are characteristics of the monkey god, Tulsi Das, literary poet par excellence and how his text, the ramcaritmanas, which heavily features Hanuman ji, became the bible of North India.
